The brief
SPS were engaged by Absinthe Film Entertainment to provide final post-production on ‘F For Fakenham (Orson Welles in Norwich)’ – a 22-min episode of the ‘Urban Myths’ strand, that follows a little-known story of the time in the 1970s when Orson Welles (played by Robbie Coltrane) was working on his acclaimed film documentary ‘F for Fake’. The brief was to create a high-end product, within a limited budget (much like the story), that brought the true tale back to life with a pinch of fiction.

The solution
We chose a talented team that would showcase SPS’ technical & creative abilities, form a good relationship with production, and facilitate the director and producer by giving them the look and style they required to emulate the era. In addition to workflow supervision, editing & onlining, grading, and mixing, our team carried out ambitious VFX work (bringing non-working windmills seamlessly back to life), which was integral to the script & storyline and added a new dimension to the overall project.
Edited in Avid Media Composer & Symphony (w/ Baselight Plug-In), visual effects created in Adobe AfterFX & Cinema 4D, given a Baselight grade and a Pro Tools audio mix, the project was completed in 9 workdays and delivered for transmission on Sky Arts.
The contribution of SPS was a crucial factor in the episode’s success in creative, technical, and project management terms. We couldn’t recommend SPS more highly and look forward to working with them again in the near future.
