Hitmen: Reloaded

SPS were engaged by Tiger Aspect Productions & Sky Studios to provide full post-production (excluding grade & VFX) on ‘Hitmen: Reloaded’ – the second season (x6 30-min episodes) of the hit scripted comedy following Fran (Sue Perkins) and Jamie (Mel Giedroyc) as they reprised their roles as two best friends who just happen to kill people for a living. The brief was to build on the success of the first series collaboration by further improving the workflow, delivering the project to NBCU for the first time, and pushing the boundaries by producing the project in UHD HDR and Dolby Atmos.

Considering the scale and profile of the project, we formed a team of our top post talent with the right blend of experience and energy to support both the production & creative teams, liaise directly with the external post facilities overseeing grade & VFX, build a bespoke workflow, execute daily rush turnarounds, and deliver a high-quality programme to specifications. With the pandemic bringing an additional dynamic to the project, our team rose to the occasion to seamlessly guide new creative team members through the hybrid workflow, pivot to accommodate a fully remote offline edit, expand their scope to cover elements of online VFX work, and ensure that the programme retained the look as editorially intended throughout all localisations.

Edited in Avid Media Composer (w/ BL Plug-In) and audio mixed in Pro Tools, the project was turned around in roughly 18 weeks and delivered for transmission on Sky Comedy & Sky Showcase.

The audio work on this project has subsequently been nominated in the ‘Excellence in Audio Post-Production (Scripted)’ category at the Broadcast Tech Innovation Awards 2021.
